Purposeful Living in a World of More
I bought this book, ENOUGH by Will Davis Jr., years ago, in 2018 to be exact. I remember reading the introduction and maybe the first chapter… and then quietly setting it aside. It stayed unopened on my shelf until recently.
If I’m honest, I was probably distracted by something I “needed.” Something shiny. Something loud. Something that required my attention.
I wasn’t quite ready for the challenge of focusing on less.
Funny how that works, isn’t it?
Recently, this book kept coming back to my mind. Almost like a whisper I couldn’t ignore. I finally noticed its dusty top, patiently waiting on my bookshelf. And I knew it was time.
Have you ever noticed how the noise of MORE, MORE, MORE gets amplified during the holiday season? I tried to fight it. I really did. Some areas I navigated well… others, not so much. I felt the inner tug-of-war but pushed it down until the overwhelm of STUFF was quite literally staring me in the face.
Stuff for others.
Stuff for myself.
A voice that just didn’t seem to end.
Deep down, I knew I needed to purge.
Somewhere along the way, I had slowly and silently fallen prey to the unspoken lie that more possessions would somehow make life more satisfying, more fulfilling, more complete.
NOPE.
Not for my children.
Not for me.
And I dare say… not for you either.
So I began looking closely at every area of my life. Slowly. Methodically. Thoughtfully. Removing what no longer served me. I’ve always done six-month closet edits, but this time something deeper was calling. A full-life edit.
I started with supplements. Over the decades, I had added so many that they became more of a burden than a blessing. Now I keep a small, meaningful rotation, intentional and supportive.
Then came skincare. I love making my own, but in recent years I started purchasing products chasing that “perfect glass skin.” Guess what? My skin looks the same. So now I’m back to crafting my own simple, clean skincare.
I’m spending less, creating more, and finding real joy in the process.
Aging gracefully.
Working from the inside out.
No fancy tools required. Well, maybe a few but I already had them. 😉
(But I digress…)
Our youngest daughter actually sparked this whole minimalistic wave. She wanted less in her room. Less furniture. Less décor. Less stuff. And honestly?
It became contagious. Fun. Challenging in the best way.
Ridding ourselves of excess.
Pausing before “add to cart.”
Choosing intention over impulse.
Simply becoming more mindful of what comes in… and what goes out.
But this doesn’t stop with material things.
Taking this approach with our thoughts, beliefs, and ideas is just as transformational.
Have you noticed how unexamined thoughts quietly collect like dust in the corners of our hearts? Over time they grow heavier, taking up space where stillness, creativity, purpose, joy, and generosity long to live.
Clearing out the old is the only way to make room for the new.
Each year in our family, we choose a word that reflects the heart of what we want to embody. This year, mine is purposeful.
Purposeful in what I bring into my home.
Purposeful in what I allow into my mind.
Purposeful in how I spend my time.
Purposeful in how I love and show up for others.
If this stirs something in you, here’s the book that I am reading. I’d love for you to join me in reading it if it sparks a flame in your heart.
So tell me…
What could you have LESS of this year so you can experience MORE of what truly fulfills you: physically, spiritually, emotionally, and beyond?
✨ Action Step ✨
Take 10 quiet minutes this week and choose one small area of your life to simplify: a drawer, your supplement shelf, your phone apps, or even a recurring thought pattern.
Ask yourself:
• Does this serve me?
• Does it bring peace or pressure?
• Am I holding onto it out of habit or purpose?
Release what no longer fits the life you’re becoming.
Make space.
Let the new in. 🤍
Sending LIGHT and LOVE!
